A breast cancer expert sets us straight

As breast cancer awareness month wraps up it’s a good time to close the door on a few common breast cancer misconceptions.

Dr. Katherine Lee is a breast cancer expert at Cleveland Clinic. She says many women feel a false sense of security when a mammogram or ultrasound comes back normal.

Another misconception is that thermal imaging of the breasts, or thermography, can be used as a substitute for a mammogram.

This type of screening uses a special heat-sensing camera to measure heat on the surface of the breast and potentially detect a tumor.

One more common misconception lies in breast cancer treatment. many women feel treatment is ‘one-size-fits-all’ and Dr. Lee says that couldn’t be farther from the truth.
