Reports indicate the welding field is wide open for new workers
There was a time in this country that qualified welders were plentiful. The draw-down on manufacturing jobs in the last decade has taken a toll on those numbers and many manufacturers say they are having trouble finding people to fill good paying jobs in the welding field.
Jeff Phillips of the Pickaway/Ross Career & Technology Center says it also is impacting more than manufacturers. Phillips says the new gas drilling boom in the nation also has a high demand for qualified welders.
Pickaway-Ross CTC offers programs in welding for secondary and adult education courses.
