A far-west-side athletic complex has received major funding by the state.
The Donald F. Coppel Soccer Complex near Slate Mills - in the plans since 2006 - will get $30,760 from Ohio.
The NatureWorks grant will be used by the Ross County Park District towards grading and seeding the planned athletic fields off the far end of Western Avenue.
Chillicothe soccer fees had brought in more than $19,500, which were expected to leverage grants such as this.
It was the only project in Ross County funded by the "NatureWorks" program of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, whose 2012 grants were announced Friday for 105 sites.
