Authorities believe the man's death was not due to foul play
The body of a man found Monday in Deer Creek is believed to have been that of a hunter or fisherman.
Foul play is not suspected in the death of 55-year-old Terry D. Abernathy of Mount Sterling, near the Pickaway-Madison county line. Pickaway Sheriff Dwight Radcliff believes Abernathy might have fallen from an abandoned railroad bridge and that further investigation and an autopsy will probably shed more light on the death.
Abernathy’s body was found in approximately four feet of water by kayakers who were paddling along Deer Creek at 1:15pm Monday and called 911.
The railroad bridge is located along Cemetery Road near Era. The tiny Pickaway County crossroads is about 3 miles from Mount Sterling.
Abernathy was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, according to family members.
