First-half payments are due in Ross County on February 8th.
First-half real estate tax payments for Ross County are due Friday, February 8th. County Treasurer Jerry Byers is reminding taxpayers that missing the deadline will mean paying more. Ohio law requires the treasurer to charge a 10% penalty on all payments received after the due date except for payments that are postmarked by the due date.
The treasurer’s office has extended hours this week and will be open everyday from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
“The longer hours give us more time to help taxpayers with questions or problems and it makes it a little easier for those people who pay in person to get into the office,” said Byers.
A total of nearly 40,000 payments are expected by the due date and Byers says almost half of those payments will be made this week.
Taxpayers who receive a separate manufactured home bill have until March 1st to make those payments.
Taxpayers who wait until Friday night will still able to get their payments in on time by placing them in either the night deposit slot at the Treasurer’s office or the drive-up tax payment box located in the parking lot of the Ross County Service Center on Western Avenue in Chillicothe. All payments deposited before midnight on the due date will be considered timely.
E-check or credit card payments made through the treasurer’s website before midnight will also be on time.
