The re-trial of Brent Cox will not be needed after he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge

A Waverly man has avoided a re-trial in Pickaway County after pleading guilty to charges he fatally shot a Circleville man last year.

34-year-old Brent Cox accepted the plea bargain in the murder of 43-year-old Rodney Metcalf. Cox pleaded guilty this morning (Monday) of Involuntary Manslaughter. He will serve a total of 11 years in prison on that conviction, along with a gun specification.

In the original trial last year, Cox was found not guilty on the two counts of Aggravated Murder and one count of Murder. But, there was a hung jury on counts of Murder, Aggravated Robbery and Theft.

To avoid the re-trial on those counts, Cox accepted the plea bargain.
