Plans to re-do Main Street this summer dominated the talk in Chillicothe Council.

City Engineer Tom Day explained the ODOT's plans to make Main Street, between Western and Bridge streets, safer with left-turn lanes - but at the cost of some on-street parking places. About 41 would be sacrificed, most outside of the core downtown.
But the state wanted the ordinance, to allow the parking to be removed, passed that night on first reading - because one of the grants involved had to be spent by July 1st.
Some council members balked at that, saying this was the first time this amount of information has been presented, after a couple committee meetings last year that had only general information.
Some also said they spoke with business owners who were ok with the plan, but others said some businesses had not gotten any information.
To allow the public more review time, Mayor Jack Everson suggested to contact the state on how much time they could wait.
Engineer Tom Day guesses there may be a one- to two-week leeway to get this passed in time.
This is part of the state's program to repave highways every 15 years or so.
