Instead of being voted down, the single-hauler ordinance was tabled indefinitely.
For the second and last time, Circleville Council did not vote on designating an official city trash hauler.
Mike Logan, the sponsor for the ordinance that was about a year in the making, motioned to table it indefinitely...instead of bringing it to a vote he knew it would not pass.
He said he accepted defeat not because it the ordinance was the wrong thing to do, but because he simply didn't have the support on council.
The tabled ordinance will remain on the agenda until council votes to do something else with it.
Does Logan hope to bring it back up to a vote? No, he said - never again.
The ordinance would have determined a single large hauler of trash for residences in the city, instead of the current free market that has many different haulers, operating on most streets, at different prices, any day of the week.
Council also had a public hearing on the $19.7 million draft 2014 budget.
