Council looked at various aspects of the budget Monday night.
In the monthly financial review session, Auditor Luke Feeney gave a positive overview of the first half of the year...or as much as can be analyzed. But he says the city still needs to exercise caution.
The city also has to pass a draft budget for 2014, by July 15th, and Feeney will calculate the numbers at the last minute to have the most complete data.
Other review concerns included the fact that the Municipal Court is not pursuing collections - and that the police department has run through its entire annual budget for vehicle maintenance.
The issue of all three city trash trucks aging badly also came up, which is coming to a head if the city wants to get out of the trash business.
In the single-topic special legislative session, Auditor Luke Feeney says the city wants to offer a truce to delinquent income tax payers.
Between July first and August 16th - and ONLY then - the ordinance would give the auditor the ability to go easy and offer income tax amnesty.
Council will probably pass it on second reading next Monday...when there will be another financial review session.
