A drug awareness event is planned for July 9th in Waverly
The Recovery Council will host Operation: Street Smart on Tuesday July 9th at the Pike County Government Center.
Operation: Street Smart is a nationally recognized program that aims to provide current and up-to-date narcotics information on trends, terminology, paraphernalia, and physiological effects to individuals who deal with a community's population on a daily basis.
Two current Franklin County undercover detectives, who possess over thirty-five years of combined narcotics experience, will conduct the presentation.
During the presentation, the officers will provide examples of designer street drugs and provide the audience a hands-on opportunity to learn how to identify them. Traditional drugs such as marijuana, cocaine, crack, heroin and methamphetamines will be covered as well as the increased use of date rape drugs, steroids and prescription medications.
Those in attendance will learn to identify the most commonly used drugs in today's society, identify paraphernalia associated wit these abused drugs, and to identify concealment techniques used by drug users.
Operation: Street Smart is open to any member of the community 21 years of age or older. Registration is required. You can submit your registration by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling Lori Taylor Moore at 740-947-2364. The registration deadline is July 2nd.
The program will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Government Center conference room.
