Authorities say have someone look after your home if you are gone
Summer months bring with it vacation travels away from home for many people, which could also be prime-time for thieves to do their work, if they "know" you are gone. Chillicothe Police Officer Bud Lytle recommends making it look as if your home is occupied while you are gone- if you are not able to get someone to "house-sit".
Another tip is not broadcasting on social media that you are away from the house, because Lytle says there are people that troll these sites to find that information.
Officer Lytle also recommends letting someone you know have your traveling plans, in case they need to contact you in an emergency.
