Chillicothe City Auditor Luke Feeney breaks down Amnesty program.
You've already heard that Chillicothe City Council has approved a tax amnesty plan for city residents delinquent on their city income taxes. But maybe you aren't sure if it applies to you or even how to get the process started.
Chillicothe City Auditor Luke Feeney sat down with Clear Channel News and outlined what taxpayers need to do to get these taxes paid. Feeney strongly suggests that you start now, by first calling his office and asking what you need and see if you are in compliance or not.
The next step would be getting the tax forms that you may need and locating important documents such as W-2's, and 1099's from the year you didn't file. Feeney even says they are willing to work with you on a payment plan, if you can't pay it all at once.
While the deadline for tax amnesty is August 16th, Feeney says don't wait until the last minute. Penalties for not paying taxes include a civil case in court or even a criminal misdemeanor.
You can call the Auditor's office for more information at 773-1161.
