Council members have cut $100,000 from Safety Services due to reductions in tax revenue and funding from the state.
Waverly Village Council members passed a budget amendment Tuesday aimed at reducing the operating costs of the Waverly Police and Fire Departments.
The Departments are facing a $100,000 shortfall due to a loss of tax revenue and reduced funding from the state.
The Police Department will see a reduction of $77,000 with a $29,000 reduction for the Fire Department.
Waverly Police Chief Larry Roe says the shortfall is not currently expected to affect staffing levels in the department or their presence within the community.
Roe says it's really too early to tell exactly how the reduced operating cost will affect the department but they will do the best they can with the money they're provided.
