The word 'handicap' could soon be struck from Ohio law.
It's not the first time lawmakers have removed words deemed offensive from state code. Terms like idiot, lunatic, and insane were pulled in 2007 and mental retardation in 2009.
State Rep. Michael Stinziano says he first heard about this from advocacy groups. The bill would require new signs for things like parking no longer include handicap, but rather terms like accessible or disability.
