The money will be used for diabetes education prevention
State Senator Bob Peterson announced that the Ohio Commission on Minority Health has awarded the Ross County Community Action Agency with a $2,500 grant to hold a local event to educate Ohioans on best practices to avoid diabetes. The event, "Healthy, Happy, and Wise," will take place in the spring of 2014.
The grant is part of the state's Minority Health Month educational initiatives.
"Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death in our country," said Peterson. "This event is a great way to get the message out to our community on how they can stay healthy and take preventative measures to avoid this disease."
The event will show the community how to prevent diabetes through proper diet and exercise and will include a double-dutch demonstration, a lecture on diabetes prevention, and cooking demonstration from a licensed dietician.
