Huntington Township voters next month will decide an issue that would pay to staff their volunteer Fire & EMS.
For the past year, Huntington Township officials have been talking to residents about a proposal to pay personnel to man their fire and EMS squads.
Huntington Township Fire Chief Larry Cuckler spoke with Clear Channel Chillicothe about the 4.9 mil levy. If approved, it would be permanent and would also replace the current 1 mil levy on the books.
He says this could vastly improve response time. Having staff at the fire house 24 / 7 would get responders on the road in only a few minutes, which can make the difference of life or death for someone.
For the owner of a home valued at $100,000, it will cost an extra $151 a year. Cuckler says this would also improve the townships fire rating, which would likely mean lower homeowner fire insurance.
