Some major changes for Council in the new year

Waverly Council met in regular session Tuesday night, but the meeting was anything but regular.

Council had 6 members sworn in, with one new face joining the Council, Brian Blakeman has taking the seat previously occupied by Steve Fisher.Blakeman now joins his father Forest Blakeman in Council chambers.

But the biggest news of the night came in the form of a resignation letter from Waverly's longtime Mayor, Dale Reed.

Mr. Reed read a short but to the point resignation letter to a large audience

Dale Reed on Handing over Mayor Position

Mr. Reed believes Greg Kempton can help the city get its budget back on track.

But the Mayor seat was not empty for long, Council President Greg Kempton was sworn in as Mayor of Waverly. The Council President seat however, remains open as Council could not agree on who would be best to fill that position permanently.

Mayor Kempton hopes someone will be appointed in the next Council meeting. With that appointment, there will be a vacant Council seat that will also need to be filled.
