Aleris International is planning an expansion that would create new jobs.

The Pickaway County Commissioners have set into motion a proposal that could lead to tax abatement for a company wanting to expand near Ashville.

Aleris International Inc. is asking for a 10-year-60% real property tax abatement, in order to construct a new line at their plant off State Route 752. The expansion could create 68 new manufacturing jobs.

Pickaway Economic Development Director Ryan Scribner says the company manufactures fascia and other home trim items, but wants to expand to make aluminum panels that can be used for semi-tractor trailers.

While the expansion construction cost is approximately $5.5 million dollars, the total company investment of job creation, retention and construction surpasses $30 million dollars.

While the new investment would be for $5.5 million dollars, the total investment in job retention and new construction and salary would total more than $30 million dollars.

The commissioners approved a few appointments of individuals who will negotiate further details of the abatement proposal.
