2012 should be a better year accordng to Ohio Travel & Tourism officials

You might be planning your family's summer outing right now and Ohio's tourism director hopes you'll stay close to home.

The industry saw an increase in per person spending last year.
That's a trend tourism director Amir Elyon thinks will continue this year. But, he says the state is well-suited to actually benefit from that since much of Ohio's tourism is regional based. 85 percent of the people who spent the night in Ohio last year only drove 350 miles to get here.

So-called "staycations" have many Ohioans discovering destinations in their own backyard. The travel industry is concerned about the possibility of high gas prices, but not Elyon.
