Flaget & RCCA Named Outstanding Schools

The honors were presented at the SE District Science Fair.

Bishop Flaget School was awarded the honor of Outstanding Middle School at the 2012 Southeast District Science Fair for receiving the highest number of superiors for grades 7-8.

Superior ratings were awarded to Cassidy Corcoran, Emily Preston, and Emma Lanning. Excellent ratings were awarded to John Schafer, Gabby Lapurga, and Carly McCloy.

Several students received special awards:
Cassidy Corcoran- Be WISE scholarship ($100), Governor's Award for Excellence in Alternative Energy Research, Engineering Award, Institute for Sustainable Energy Award

Emily Preston- Be WISE scholarship ($100), Biological Sciences Award ($50), Broadcom Masters National Science Competition Invitation

Emma Lanning- 1st place Psychology Award ($50), Be WISE Scholarship ($100), Broadcom Masters National Science Competition Invitation.



Students from Ross County Christian Academy came home Saturday with handfuls of medals, ribbons and even cash prizes from the District Science Fair held at Ohio University Saturday.

In addition to students capturing individual
recognition the school was awarded the honor of "Outstanding Elementary School" for the southeastern Ohio district.



Students receiving individual awards were:
Kyrsten Oyer-Association for Women Geoscientists: Outstanding Project in Earth and Environmental Sciences, ($100 prize), NOAA 2012 Taking the Pulse of the Planet Award, First Place for Outstanding Academic Achievement for Research in Earth and Environmental Science, Award for Environmental Science.

Lydia Kallies First Place in Nutrition ($75)

Lindsay Standerfer-Second place in Chemistry ($50),Second Place in Nutrition ($50)

Adin Pendell¹s project on Cleaning Copper Oxide also received a superior rating. Adin, Kyrsten, Lydia and Lindsay qualified to move on to the state science fair at Ohio State University in May.

Ann Shelby, Ashton Hatfield , Caroline King, and Jonathan Reisinger also competed at the fair and earned good, excellent or superior ratings.

At RCCA students are taught that God is the creator of the universe and that science is the exploration of God¹s creation. Teacher and fair coordinator JaiŒAnn Dyke said, "I am overwhelmed by the way God has blessed RCCA students! Being able to talk about God in science class is amazing."
