Under Secretary Doug O'Brien promoted job creation funding.
A top USDA Rural Development official visited Chillicothe Thursday to talk about grants to create jobs in the region.
USDA Under Secretary Doug O'Brien said "USDA has grants available for regional initiatives to create sustainable jobs and grow the economy. By forming partnerships here or with companies in other parts of Ohio, businesses know that a stronger economy here benefits residents throughout the state".
O'Brien was joined by Appalachian Regional Commission Federal Co-Chair Earl Gohl to remind community leaders of a nationwide partnership with the Commerce Department and two regional development groups, that includes the Appalachian Regional Commission.
Grants are available to improve capacity of local organizations to complete successful economic development, community facilities and housing projects, as well as helping educate officials on financial and development organization requirements.
Application deadlines for the grants are May 9th, 2012. Organizations may apply for Jobs Accelerator grants as well as for USDA funding through the Rural Community Development Initiative Program. Applications must be submitted through the USDA Rural Development state office.
