April is Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Helen Lehman of Ross County Childrens Services says the number of abused children that have to be taken from homes continues to be high. She says they currently have 91 children in custody, another 88 are in kinship homes or those of relatives outside their parents, with 23 in permanent custody.

Lehman says they receive over 1,600 complaint calls each year, with approximately half of those resulting in actual abuse problems.

She adds that over the last three years, they have seen 30 child adoptions within the county. For more information about child adoptions, call 702-4453.
