Mike Shoemaker may be out of politics, but the long time Ohio Legislator from
Ross County has kept his hands involved with Scioto Valley Habitat for Humanity. Appearing on the Herrnstein Community Program, Shoemaker says Habitat is hosting a Ribeye Steak Dinner on June 24th at the St. Mary’s Life Center. Ohio Christian University President, Dr. Mark Smith will be the keynote speaker. Since 1993, Scioto Valley Habitat for Humanity has built 26 homes. The Larry Turner Memorial Golf Tournament is June 25th at the Chillicothe Jaycee Golf Course. Chillicothe High School athletic Hall of Famer Garin Veris says the tournament is in memory of his father Larry who was a victim of cancer. Proceeds from the tournament and the dinner to follow will benefit the American Cancer Society and CHS Student Athlete Scholarships. Entry for golfers is $110 per person. Tickets to the dinner at the First Capital Music Hall on West 2nd Street are $25. Veris who played football at Stanford University and spent 8 seasons in the NFL with the Patriots and 49ers also weighed in on the recent events surrounding the Ohio State Football program.
