Westfall football coach Scott Keller unable to coach this year
The Ohio Department of Education has notified Scott Keller that he will not get his teaching and activities permit renewed this school year.
That means the Mustangs football coach will not be able to lead his team for the remainder of the season. He's been acting as a volunteer for the first three weeks of the season, but without a "activities permit", he will be unable to serve even in that capacity.
Westfall School Superintendent Cara Riddle was quoted in a Circleville Herald article Thursday that Friday's game at Piketon will be handled by current assistant coaches at Westfall, which they have been doing the first three weeks.
Keller notified his players of the ODE decision Thursday.
Westfall officials learned of problems Keller was having last school year with pain medication to cope with a college shoulder injury.
Former Westfall and Circleville head coach Keith Downing filled-in as the Mustangs "ambassador coach" Friday , but sources say he will likely be approved as the new head coach when the board of education meets Monday.
