Westfall Wows ZT in Come-Back
The Mustangs rally from 0-2 deficit to hand the Pioneers their first loss of the season

From the fans viewpoint, it was an instant classic.

Losing the first two sets 12-25, 21-25, Westfall rallied to win the next three sets 25-20, 25-16, 15-12 over #6 state ranked and previously unbeaten Zane Trace.

Set #1 was all Pioneers as they rolled to a 6-0 start and never were in trouble 25-12.

Set #2 saw the score stay much closer and was within 23-21 before ZT pulled away 25-21.

The tide turned in Set #3, as Westfall started to pull away midway through the set after being tied 11-11. The Mustangs built a lead of 20-13, and managed to hold-off a furious Pioneers rally which got as close as 24-20, before ending at 25-20.

In Set #4, Westfall built early leads and were tied at 9-9, when they took the lead and stormed away to a 25-16 decision.

The 5th and deciding set was probably won early, with Westfall jumping-out to a 5-0 start. Zane Trace rallied to even the score at 7-7 and 8-8, before the Mustangs reestablished the lead with a 13-9 margin, before finishing at 15-12.

Where Zane Trace controlled the defense and net play in the first two sets, that all turned completely around with stellar back-row defensive play from Westfall libero Kayla Tackett and defensive specialist Sara Link. Tackett had 35 digs and Link 27, which kept rallies alive until the front-row hammers of Olivia Cobb and Hannah Phillips came to life. Cobb finished with an unofficial 24 kills, 17 digs and 24 assists, while Phillips added 18 kills. Hannah Wallace added 7 kills, while Abbie Nicholson and Lindsey Lemaster each had 5. Kelly Fuchs also had 12 digs for Westfall. Denise Arledge had 27 assists.

Zane Trace was led by Hayle Carle with 19 kills and 22 digs. Kylan Strausbaugh added 14 kills and 18 digs and Delaney Spetnagle added 6 kills and 24 digs. Jillian Pontious had 20 assists and Karah Tillis with 14.

Zane Trace still holds on to first place at (8-1) in the SVC with a four-team log-jam for second at (6-3) between Westfall, Unioto, Adena and Huntington.

Adena upset Huntington in Frankfort 18-25, 25-15, 27-25, 25-21. Unioto swept Piketon 25-11, 25-16, 25-19 and Southeastern over Paint Valley 25-13, 25-16, 25-23.

(8-1) Zane Trace hosts (6-3) Unioto Thursday in a match to be heard on 94 Country WKKJ and worldwide on IHeart Radio.
