Cavs (8-0) sweep Jackson (2-6), Logan (5-3) takes Gallia Academy (5-3)
Chillicothe (8-0) claimed the SEOAL Volleyball Championship after sweeping Jackson 25-17, 25-9, 25-21 and Logan (5-3) knocked off Gallia Academy (5-3) 11-25, 25-18, 15-14, 25-19.
It’s been a slow rise to
the top of the SEOAL for Chillicothe. The Cavs lost to Zanesville in 2008 back under the Day of Champions format when the league had 10 member schools. The Cavs were 5th in 2009, 3rd in 2010 and 2nd in 2011.
With their victory over Jackson, the Cavs remain unbeaten in league sets at 24-0.
Stat leaders were Hayley Robinson dishing out 40 assists to Katelyn Martin with 13 kills, Maddi Glendening with 9 and Kali Kight and Caroline Benson with 7 a piece. Parisa Bennett continued to build on her great defensive season with 10 digs and Emilie Kemper tallied 5 digs.
Coach Bret Wrightsel said the Cavs were “very aggressive from the service line and controlled the match with their serves. Katelyn Martin was 14 of 16 for 92% and 6 aces and Maddi Glendening was 14 of 16 for 88% and 3 aces and served up 4 points in the final set to push the Cavs to victory including 2 aces of the 4 points when it was 20-19” which sealed the victory.
The Cavaliers are now 13-5 overall and 8-0 in the SEOAL.
Also Monday, the Freshmen won in two sets to go to 10-1 and the JV won in three to move to 9 and 6 overall.
The Cavaliers visit Gallia Academy Thursday.
