Cavs Ground Portsmouth 63-0
Chillicothe (4-6) rolls up 615 total yards in win over Portsmouth (1-9)

The Cavaliers finally had a night where they could do no wrong… well, nearly no wrong, in a 63-0 win over Portsmouth.

Outside of a couple of fumbles and an interception, Chillicothe did everything else right. Three backs with at least 100 yards each, more than 100 yards through the air, no punts, the defense pitched a shutout and ending the season with back-to-back victories.

The only thing Portsmouth had work was winning the coin toss. The Trojans deferred to the second half. That decision led to a first down hook-n-ladder by Ryan Mathis to Adam Bixler for 10 yards and a pitch to Markel Cain who raced 55 yards for the first of his three touchdowns.

Cain had just 10 carries, but rushed for 187 yards including touchdown runs of 49 and 73 yards.

Following the Cavs first TD, Portsmouth was unable to execute a fake punt and surrendered the ball at their own 45 yard line. The Trojans got the ball back on a fumble recovery, but promptly turned it back over to the Cavs on an interception by Adam BIxler. Chillicothe extended its lead to 14-0 on a 9 yard run by Julius Lee with 6:42 remaining in the 1st quarter. Ryan Mathis scored on a 3 yard run after an 8 play, 52 yard drive for a 21-0 lead.

In the 2nd quarter, Mathis hit Adam Bixler in the corner of the south end zone on a 16 yard pass for a 28-0 lead. The next two Cavalier possessions were quick, 1 play quick scores. Lee ran 64 yards up the gut (35-0) and Cain hit from 49 to go up 42-0 at the half.

Cain scored from 73 yards out, Tim Beard got 100 yards with a TD on a 2 yard run and Ondray Bryant tacked on a 26 yard run for the 63-0 win.

The last time the Cavs had pitched a shutout was Bill Davidson’s 2008 playoff team in a 41-0 win over Gallia Academy.

The Cavs defense held Portsmouth to just 42 yards in the first half and outgained the Trojans  615 to 122 yards.

Chillicothe (4-6/3-2 SEOAL) will join the SCOL next Fall.

Portsmouth slipped to (1-9/0-5).
