The Pioneers rallied from a 10-point second half deficit for a 59-53 win over the Shermans Saturday
A strong shooting fourth quarter propelled Zane Trace to a 59-53 win at home against Unioto, to remain unbeaten, handing the Shermans their first loss.
The Pioneers shot 8/12 from the field in the fourth period, including some big tree-point goals by freshman Pierce Mowery, who led all players with 22 points.
The score was even at 12-12 after the first quarter, but Unioto had leads of 23-20 at half, 40-30 late in the third, then 40-35 after three. The Pioneers regained the lead at 47-46 on a trey by Mowery and outlasted the Shermans down the stretch.
Conner Smith also had 11 for the Pioneers.
Unioto had three players in double-figures in the loss. Kyle Strange led with 15, Chase Detillion added 14 and Nick Corcoran with 12.
Zane Trace was 20/48 from the field, including 5/11 from the arc, while Unioto was 21/49- including 3/9 from the arc. At the charity stripe, Zane Trace went 14/18 and Unioto was 8/14.
Unioto committed 14 turnovers compared to ZT's 7.
