The Lady Warriors grab sole possession of the SVC lead with 47-45 win
Unioto rallied from three separate 14-point deficits, only to fall just short at Adena Thursday in a 47-45 loss to the Lady Warriors, giving the two-shade-blue the lead in SVC play at (6-0).
Adena saw third quarter leads of 33-19, 35-21 and 37-23 vanish as Unioto stormed-back to within 46-45 in the closing seconds. A Natalie Cooper free-throw made it 47-45 with 8 seconds remaining, but a driving shot attempt in the lane by Alexis Overly of Unioto was unsuccessful as the Lady Warriors handed Unioto their first SVC loss.
Last year's SVC Player of the Year, Jenny Grigsby, led all players with 24 points and 12 rebounds before fouling out with 1:50 left in the game. At that point, Adena led 43-36. Unioto used full-court pressure defense to get even closer, before falling shy of a win.
Michelle Ackley added 7 points for Adena and Alyssa Kennedy had 6 points and 8 rebounds.
Unioto was led by Alexis Overly's 21 points, all but six in the second half. Ashley Flautt and Taylor Overly added 6 points each.
Adena won the battle of the boards 36-25, with a big stat of 17 offensive rebounds being a big key in the win. Unioto forced 14 Lady Warriors turnovers, while committing 9 of their own.
Adena was 18/51 from the field, including only 1/9 from the arc for 35%, and went 10/16 at the charity stripe. Unioto was only 11/38 from the field- including 2/6 from the arc for a dismal 29%. But, the Lady Shermans were kept in the game by a big night at the foul line, where they were 20/27 for 74%.
The Lady Warriors improve to (6-0/12-1) as Unioto drops to (5-1/8-3).
