Adena & Unioto Punch District Ticket
Both SVC teams advance with sectional title wins Saturday, but Zane Trace loses to Oak Hill

Two SVC Girls basketball squads won sectional crowns Saturday, while a third team is currently battling for a title.

ADENA 54, EASTERN BROWN 32
SVC champion Adena tore out of the gates to a 19-3 first quarter lead and never looked back en route to a 54-32 win over Eastern Brown for the Division 3 Sectional championship at Lucasville Valley High School.

SVC Player of the Year Jenny Grigsby scored 13 of her game-high 24 points in that period and Natalie Cooper added 18 points for the game in the win.



The Lady Warriors were never in any trouble throughout the game, shooting 22/48 from the field for 45% and 10/18 from the charity stripe. They were 0/3 from the arc.

Eastern Brown was a dismal 6/27 from the field for 22%- including 4/11 at the arc. The Lady Warriors of EB were 8/15 at the foul line.

Adena out-rebounded Eastern Brown 31-21, while Eastern had 23 turnovers to 14 for Adena.

Adena advances to the D-3 District Semis at Waverly Downtown Gym Thursday, February 21st at 6:15pm against Crooksville, who beat Alexander 35-20. 94 Country WKKJ will broadcast the game with airtime at 6pm.


UNIOTO 40, McCLAIN 38
Lady Shermans senior Ashley Flautt got a stick-back after tearing a rebound away from McClain in the closing seconds to left Unioto to a 40-38 Division 2 Sectional championship over the Lady Tigers.

Officials determined there was 1.8 seconds remaining after the bucket, and two deflected inbounds passes later, Unioto was on their way to the district tournament.

The Lady Tanks held leads of 7-0 and 9-2 to start, but McClain tied it 11-11 after the first quarter. Unioto led 23-21 at half, then McClain was up 32-30 after three periods. McClain's biggest leads were 28-23 and 32-26.

Unioto pulled-out the win, despite McClain holding a 27-13 rebounding advantage.

Unioto was led by Flautt and Alexis Overly with 11 points each, and Mallory Retherford added 9.

McClain had 13 points/9 rebounds from 5'6 sophomore Shania Massie and 10 from Katie Unger, who also grabbed 9 rebounds.

Unioto shot 16/41 for 39%- including 2/10 from the arc. The Lady Tigers were 13/34 for 38%- including 2/4 from the arc. The Shermans were 6/10 from the foul line and McClain 10/18.



(15-8) Unioto plays Athens at 1:45pm February 23rd in the Division 2 District Semis at Southeastern High School. 1490 WBEX & 92.7 FM will broadcast the game with airtime at 1:30pm.


OAK HILL 62, ZANE TRACE 34
Zane Trace Lady Pioneers played Oak Hill tough through the first quarter, even at 14-14, but the Lady Oaks broke things open in the second quarter for a 62-34 win at Jackson High School in the Division 3 Sectional Championship.

Oak Hill led 29-18 at haltime, 46-24 after three, then the final 62-34.

(16-8) Oak Hill had four players in double figures, led by LeAnna Adkins with 24 points. Abby Haislop and Alex Kuhn each added 11 and Paige Roseberry with 10 points.

(13-11) Zane Trace was led by Morgan Geno with 12 points.

The Lady Oaks shot 20/38 from the field- including 6/11 from the arc for 53%, while ZT was 11/36 for 31%. That included 2/10 from the arc.

OH was 4/7 at the charity stripe and ZT 6/9. Oak Hill led the battle for the boards at 25-15, but committed only 9 turnovers to 16 for the Lady Pioneers.
