Unioto plays Alter for regional title Saturday afternoon, after two time changes.
Unioto is one step away from the Division 2 State Volleyball Final Four after a 29-27, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22 win over Cincinnati McNicholas Thursday at Wilmington High School.
The Tanks will play Kettering Alter Saturday at 2pm, after the OHSAA changed the time for playing the match "twice". Within hours Friday, the start time went from 2pm to 7pm, then back to 2pm. This requires the broadcast of the regional final be moved to WQLX 106.5FM with airtime Saturday at 1:45pm.
Unioto jumped-out to big leads in Set #1, grabbing a 5-0 start and later held leads of seven points on five occasions, before the Rockets came storming back. The lead see-sawed with both teams having Set-Point at least twice, before the Shermans sealed the 29-27 decision.
Set #2 stayed much closer in the beginning, with both teams holding slim leads until Unioto pulled-away with a 8-1 finish after being tied at 17-17.
Set #3 was tight until Unioto grabbed a 16-10 advantage, only to see McNicholas come back for a 22-25 win.
Set #4 also saw Unioto take sizable leads of 10 points, leading as late as 22-12. But, the Rockets fought back to within 24-22 before Unioto sealed the deal.
Unioto had big performances at the net from Halle White, Alexis and Taylor Overly. White had 19 kills and 2 blocks, while Alexis Overly added 15 and Taylor Overly 12 kills. Karee Neff pitched-in five more. Emily Ward had 21 digs and the Shermans zipped 13 serving aces for the match.
(17-9) McNicholas was led by two players with 11 kills each, Hannah Taylor and Hannah Staubach. Lauren Schmalz and Adrian Ell each had 9.
