The Falcons hold Unioto to 28% shooting for 47-38 sectional title win.
Leading 33-32 headed to the final quarter, the Unioto Shermans saw a cold shooting night against a swarming Minford defense get even worse, as their 2/13 fourth quarter spelled doom in a 15-5 scoring run for Minford in a 47-38 sectional title win at Southeastern High School's Larry Jordan Gymnasium.
For the game, the Shermans managed only 15/53 from the floor- including 4/21 from the three-point arc for only 28%. They were also 5/6 at the foul line, committing 11 turnovers and being outrebounded 33-26.
Minford also didn't set the world on fire, but shot well enough for the win at 16/41- including 5/16 from the arc for 39%. They were also helped at the foul line for 10/13.
Unioto was led by Nick Overly's 11 points, while SVC "Player of the Year" Nick Corcoran managed only 10 points, as he saw double-team coverage most of the game. Erique Hosley, who was in foul trouble most of the second half, finished with 8 points and three blocked shots.
Minford's 6'6- 300 pound pivot Jared McCray propelled the inside attack with a game-high 18 points and three blocks. Brandon Rowe added 14 and Cody Stapleton scored all of his 8 points in the second half with clutch shooting.
The SVC Champion Shermans close their (20-4) season with their second sectional title loss in the last three years, as (18-3) Minford advances to the district tournament at the Ohio University Convo in Athens.
